- Map names, routes, address translation and policy boundaries.
- Separate DNS, connection, handshake and application failures.

Change the narrowest verified network boundary when packet or connection evidence localizes the fault.
Concrete contribution
Trace one packet/request through routing, name resolution, policy and connection reuse; identify the failing boundary with observations from both sides.

Do not infer end-to-end connectivity from a single open port.
